Description
Dia de Los Muertos was originally a month-long tradition celebrating the lives and memories of those who came before us. Once colonization started taking over Mexico native Mexicans were forced to transfer the entire month-long celebration to one day, “All Saints Day”. Dia de los Muertos has been a subject matter I have always wanted to paint. The theme drove me to use perceptive to put the viewer into playing the role of the person who has passed and shows all the details of Las Ofrendas (The Offerings) left to celebrate our lives and the lives of the living we have left behind. This painting is also about the respect I have for those who came before me and specifically the love and respect I still have for my grandmother who greatly affected my life.
